I have experienced medicinally caused coughing (Tadalafil) but most recently we found that a nighttime cough I had was due to my having GERD. I now take Famotodine before dinner and my cough disappeared,

I had coughing fits when I laid down to sleep. My esophagus/stomach valve doesn't fully close and I my stomach also pushed up through the diaphragm (hernia ) so my GERD got worse. My physician prescribed Famotidine before going to bed and to use a wedge pillow. I seldom get a cough.
