My disease was so advanced at diagnosis, my specialist started piling on medications as quickly as insurance would approve them. It's my understanding there is no one test to determine which pathway, it's a combination of tests that show your pressures, how well your heart is working, your functionality, and lots of other things.

Please remember that PAH is only Group 1 . The other groups are PH. Only Group 1 has medications approved for all 4 pathways. In most cases the doctors will try to treat the first 2 pathways first, then maybe the third, and maybe the fourth.

I can’t speak to how doctors determine what medications to try and when. I am Group 2. I was initially miscategorized as Group 1. As soon as the error was discovered, I was taken off my medication for the first 2 pathways

I've asked my doctor about the different pathways and which ones to treat. The problem seems to be that, when it comes to PAH, there are no tests (yet) to determine which of the things in our bodies are doing less than they should or more than they should. So we go on meds for a pathway and see if it works or we need to add more meds. I was on 2 things for a while but when my symptoms got worse we added another. It's hit-and-miss right now so the aim is to just keep trying until things work.

As far as AI goes, it will grab information from where ever it can. Since information about PAH is rather limited, it's only going to give you answers that you get when searching by words. AI is a tool that is still being developed but people need to remember that it's just a tool to give information and not make decisions.
