I had all the same test. I have pah. I am still trying to understand. what all the results mean. your questions are helpful. thank you
Well, the good news about being Group 1, PAH, is that it was the first subgroup to get a lot of attention from the pharmaceutical researchers and you have quite a few medications that can be VERY helpful. There are 4 different “pathways “ for approaching how to treat PAH and it is generally recommended to combine 3 if not all 4 of them.
now that I am at my computer, I can copy and paste for you the list of diagnostic tests I had all over the course of one long busy year...except the sleep study which was done a year earlier.
Tests I had for PH Diagnosis
Bi-Heart Cath
Cat scan with contrast
Right Heart Cath x3 including Fluid Challenge in last one
Pulmonary Function tests
6 minute walks
Sleep Study
Lung Perfusion test
Traditional Echocardiogram
PH Protocol Echocardiogram with contrast
Bubble test
There is a lot more testing that gets done. Although if your Wedge reading in your RHC is over 15, then you are Group 2 due to Left Heart Disease. Your Wedge reading might be labeled as PAWP.
I had a full year of diagnostic testing. It really is a journey. It will include a lung perfusion test, a sleep study, etc.
Doctors typically start with non-invasive tests to evaluate potential PH/PAH:
• Echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart)
• Chest X-ray to check heart and pulmonary artery size
• Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) to measure heart's electrical activity
• Blood tests to look for underlying causes The definitive way to diagnose PAH Show Full Answer
