Members opened up about losing friendships after becoming seriously ill, with many sharing that people often pulled away because they couldn't understand an illness that isn't visible from the outside. Several members found comfort in faith, supportive spouses, and new connections made through church or activities like water aerobics. A recurring theme was accepting that friendships change, leaning on those who remain, and finding gratitude in each day.

I've come to accept that friends come and go for a lot of reasons. I was always the healthy one. When I became seriously ill, first from Sjogren's then PAH, people didn't quite know how to react. There's a disconnect too. I look healthy. It doesn't match what is going on with me medically in any shape or form. It's hard for people to comprehend how ill I really am. On a positive note, I've made some new friendships at the pool where I do water aerobics and at our church.
