Are Sleep Disturbances Common With PH?

Are Sleep Disturbances Common With PH?

Right now I am taking a hefty dose of Prednisone, so that could be a factor, but even before the Prednisone every fifth night or so I would stay up all night. I worked nights for a long time, so it really isn’t unpleasant for me.I just need to know if staying awake like that is ok, and not not detrimental to the few brain cells I have left

RebeccaArmstrong: My guess would be that a majority have some kind of sleep disorder as a symptom to their PH/PAH.
1-INSOMNIA - The inability to get to sleep
or
the inability to stay asleep
2-SLEEP APNEA - most of us have been dx. with
OSA/ Obstructive SLeep Apnea
After diagnosis from a sleep study confirms this dr. usually Rx.
CPAP or Bip-pap.
Some people learn that all they need is supplemental o2
during sleep.
It is ok to be awake as a side effect of Prednisone.
****I am concerned with your weight gain
****Please continue to weigh yourself daily & 3 lbs.overnight call dr.
*****Fluid retention with PH is a HUGE concern-check your legs/ankles

The med has helped. The pain is better and I’m breathing better. But I have gained 6 pounds in 6 days!! Thankfully now that I’m tapering down, I won’t have that excuse any more!
I have nasty arthritis-two frozen shoulders and the prednisone has relieved so much of the pain, I almost felt normal!

SonyaArmstrong: Lack of significant sleep is not healthy. Insomnia is described as the difficulty getting to sleep resulting from staying awake & when you do sleep it is for a short time or waking up after only sleeping a short time and not being able to get back to sleep. Insomnia is listed as a
symptom of PH. With this dx. of PH we need to take healthy actions for our health. It is suggested that we try to get better sleep, exercise, better diet, etc.

I have sleep issues, too! CPAP on my face and is not helping the problem. Who can sleep with that mask on!! I have been on Prednisone for over a year and have gained an insane amount of weight. Going from being super active In the fashion industry, and then becoming ill, adds to the mess. Try not to sit all day. Movement is an important part of healing......oh, who am I kidding......that's hard too!! 🌻
