Scottsdale, AZ

The PHA newsletter included an article about how far people travel to see their PH care providers. I'm lucky. Arizona has no less than 6 PH Clinics now. Mine is just a 45 to 50 minute drive from my house.

Members shared how far they travel to see their pulmonary hypertension specialists, with distances ranging from just 10 minutes to nearly 300 miles one way. Several members expressed gratitude for being close to a PH clinic, while others described long drives through mountains, winter weather, and limited transportation options, with some relying on buses, medical vans, or Zoom calls to stay connected with their care teams. A recurring theme was that no matter the distance, members felt the travel was worth it to see a doctor who truly understands PH.

I'm blessed to have my specialist 10 min from my house.

I travel 2+ hrs one way. There are 3 PH clinics in Wisconsin and they are all about the same distance from where I live. I don't mind the distance because I am so happy with my team of Drs.

I don't have a PH specialist. My pulmonologist is across the street. I travel twenty minutes to get to my cardiologist. I don't have a car. I use the transportation service provided by the health insurance or the municipal transport when available. There's a bus stop in front of my building. The waiting time plus trip by bus can take anywhere from half an hour up to two hours if I'm lucky, and then walk for fifteen minutes under the caribbean sun. Hopefully it won't rain. Uber and Lyft are seldom an option due to budget constraints.
UPDATE: My transport situation changed due to a retainer wall fail in my street. The buses can't manage the alternate street corners. The provisional route stops are 20 minutes walking distance...

I am new to this diagnosis and do not yet have a PH specialist. I travel about 20 minutes in one direction to see my pulmonologist (who did the testing and gave me the diagnosis) and 20 minutes in another direction to see my cardiologist. After I stabilize on the first line of treatment (Tadalafil + Opsumit), I plan to get an opinion from the nearest accredited PH center, which is approximately 100 Miles away.
