Hello @A myPHteam Member, I have IPAH CTEPH and currently taking Ozempic. I have been on Ozempic going 2 years in November and have PH since 2020. I have lost close to 140 pounds. It was at first an adjustment period, however once the weight started coming off things got really good. I have no more body pains, no more diabetes medication, no more high blood pressure and buried my CPad machine. Feel free to ask me anything you like. Good luck with your weight loss journey.

@A myPHteam Member are you able to walk? If do I was able to start walking first around the house then went from there. It didn't happen overnight it takes time. Have grace on yourself.

Great question! Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, and while it's not the same as the GLP-1 drugs most studied in relation to PAH, the general guidance around this drug class still applies to your situation.
The good news is that current research doesn't show that GLP-1 drugs cause pulmonary hypertension. In fact, some studies suggest they may have heart-protective benefits. For people with PAH, managing weight can help reduce strain on the heart and lungs, which is a real plus.
That said, there are some important things to keep in mind before starting Zepbound with PAH: - Drug interactions β PAH treatments like vasodilators, diuretics, and blood thinners could potentially interact with GLP-1 medications
- Side effects to watch β Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are common; rarer risks include changes in heart function or breathing problems
- Red flags β Be especially alert to worsening shortness of breath or chest pain, as these could signal a complication
It's really important to have an open conversation with your PAH specialist before starting Zepbound. They can weigh the benefits against any risks specific to your treatment plan and monitor you closely if you do move forward.
A myPHteam member shared that consistent lifestyle changes β like walking regularly and watching diet β helped them manage their weight with PH. Medication can be a helpful tool, but it works best alongside those habits!
