My guess is that I will get that sleep study that the pulmonologist never thought I needed, and it will cost me $200. 😞 What if I don't ever fall asleep? Will they let me have my usual sleeping pill, which doesn't work all that well in the first place?
I did my instant reaction..got anxious. I looked it up...got better.

Members offered reassurance to someone anxious about an upcoming sleep study, with the overall message being that it is a manageable and often eye-opening experience. Several members shared that they were allowed to take their usual nighttime medications during the study, and many were surprised they could fall asleep despite the wires and unfamiliar setting. A recurring theme was that getting proper results can lead to helpful treatments, and practical tips like bringing a pillow, going in sleep-deprived, or requesting a sleep aid from your doctor can make the process much smoother.

Sorry for your disappoinment. It's good you are going for this study if it's just to check out one possible condition and be on the safe side.

I have had 2 sleep studies performed in the last three years. I was worried about staying asleep but was not a problem. I did not have to pay anything medicare covered all
1st one showed moderate sleep apnea
2nd one sleep apnea with hypoxia and oxygen was added.
Also had new addition of periodic limb movement over 391 during session
Very important to have the studies done as it can help determine which type of treatment is best for you.
I do now have the inspire implant which has proved to be helpful as I was unable to be compliant with cpap.
Here is to wishing all a blessed day and some comfort. Prayers sent. God bless.

Hi Angie, I have had two home sleep studies over the years, the last one was in 2024 showed mild sleep apnea, but only when I slept on my back. They suggested the in clinic test but my pulmonologist asked me to try to just increase my night time oxygen to see if that helped enough. That is what I did and that seemed to help until I got back into better shape. Right now I am trying to come down off the night time oxygen, we are weaning down now and then I will have another sleep study to see if I need either CPAP or just the oxygen. It should give you some good information.

I had a home study ordered by cardiology. They had a few concerns so I had to do an overnight at the hospital. I started the CPAP almost two months ago. They let me take my Zolpidem and I still feel I had slept much. The nurse said got the info she needed. I had wires on my face, my head, chest, abdomen, and legs. It was crazy. I supposedly stopped breathing a few times! It wasn’t terrible.
It’s a struggle to get used to having the CPAP. I’ve tried 4 masks. But, I’m a mouth breather so I have very dry mouth from that and my autoimmune stuff. Ugh. But, I felt it’s worth a try as I haven’t slept well for years. The Ambien isn’t helping much anymore and few of my meds can cause insomnia!
The experience really wasn’t that bad. Be blessed!🙏🏼
