I am stymied why my BP has dropped so low lately. Only on Thursdays do I take Torsemide, along with Adempas. After my afternoon dose of Adempas, this happens... my BP plummets. Yesterday, it went as low as 74/56.
Last week, my cardiologist took me off Diltiazem because I clearly don't need to treat high BP. But that also helps regulate heart rate, which has increased since discontinuing Diltiazem. Last week, I went to my PCP because of this issue. They just reassured me about my therapies and… read more
Update:
Doc reduced my Adempas from 2.5 to 1.5 mg, skipping a midday dose if I need to. Also told me to determine for myself when I need Torsemide (the water pill). I'll see how that helps.
Well, after the adjustment of meds 3 days ago, things seem back to normal again. BP was 130/84 this AM, O2 is 96, and heart rate is 68. Maybe the 1.5 mg of Adempas instead of the 2.5 will still help with the PAH, while keeping the BP around where it should be. I called my doc office this morning. They were quite pleased.
Volume depletion can also lower blood pressure, sometimes significantly. This may not apply to you, but mentioning for new folks. Even on fluid restrictions, accounting for summer heat and humidity is important to avoid dehydration, especially when walking or working outside.
Low bp is a side effect of Adempas. I am on metoprolol 25mg twice a day, Adempas and Yutrepia. All cause bp to drop. So it is a catch up game all day long. Trying to space my drugs out and take bp before taking any of them. This am my bp was 101/53. Didn’t take metoprolol until later when bp was higher. I took Adempas earlier which caused my bp to drop. Then I am juggling pills all day . My cardiologist said if Bp above 110 ok to take full dose of metoprolol. If lower than 110-104, take 1/2 of metoprolol. If lower don’t take any metoprolol. Also,if diastolic lower than 55 wait and take bp in about an hour. Just make sure to take your bp before taking meds.
