If so, what insurance agency did you use, how much do you pay monthly? And also what was the coverage you received? My husband is 48. When you received your coverage what types of health… read more

Carene: If either you or your husband were ever in the military, you should consider joining USAA. USAA is an insurance company that is for current and former military people or their children. You become a member (for free) and they offer a great variety of insurance products for very reasonable premium rates and have exceptional customer service.

When I was marrying my husband, I told my then future step-daughters that the best thing my marrying their dad would ever do for them would be giving them memberships in USAA.

This is such an important and caring question to ask — planning ahead is one of the most loving things you can do for each other. While specific insurance recommendations aren't something that can be provided here, there are some helpful things to know.

PAH is generally classified as a pulmonary (lung) condition, though it significantly affects the heart as well. When applying for life insurance, it's important to be fully transparent about the diagnosis. Insurers will typically ask about:

- Current medications and treatments
- WHO functional class (how much PAH limits daily activity)
- Recent test results (like right heart catheterization or echocardiogram results)
- Any complications such as right-sided heart involvement
- Overall disease progression and management The good news is that PAH treatments have improved significantly, and many people are living longer, healthier lives. This may work in your husband's favor when insurers assess risk.

It's strongly recommended to work with an independent insurance broker who specializes in high-risk or chronic illness cases — they can shop multiple insurers on your behalf.
