My creatinine has always been on the higher side. Recently, it was right at 2.0 so the doc is having me take a break from it for 3 weeks to give my kidneys a break and hopefully reduce my creatinine levels. Today marks 2 weeks without it. So far, no weight gain. I thought for sure I would gain 5-10 lbs in water weight. Has anyone stopped taking water pills (i.e., lasix) and done OK without them? I'd love to stop taking a drug as opposed to continuing to add more to my regimen.
Dropping meds is as easy as not going to the pharmacy. Getting a doctor to agree with you to get off meds while being monitored, and finding alternatives that works best for YOU is one of the hardest things to find and accomplish. But I can tell you this: with a lot of discipline and work, hard work, it is a goal worth trying to reach. I'm doing this all the time. But it takes baby steps. I am on 12 meds now, when once there were over 25!
I stopped about a year ago, and took up exercising more and vacuum cleaning the house every day just to make it exercise and to flush out the system, you know: make all the little cells do some work. When you consider stopping the meds, think about what you are going to replace it with. Will it be an action of activity, or a really stick-to-it calorie and carb diet to make your total body weight less, so you have less of you to work out to get the better benefit? Some can not do it any other way than by medication. If you can find the way, then at least try as long as you have medical supervision.
Hi Steve. My cardiologist has me take 20 mg Potassium pill w my Toresemude 20mg water pill monitor my kidney function. I'm fortunate not requiring daily intake unless I start experiencing the edema
Have you been able to stop taking water pills without issues?
It's great that you haven't experienced weight gain after two weeks off your diuretic. Some people do manage swelling through diet and lifestyle changes alone, though this varies by individual.

Yes, I stopped my Lasix. It was another drug lowering my bp. If my weight goes up,5 lbs I may take it. But I lost weight being on Yutrepia. I have no appetite and force myself to eat. I also cut out a lot of salty food, which helped with fluid retention.
