It might be worth trying lying flat when the pain starts developing to see if it will ease off.
My thinking is that if you are sitting or standing, your heart has to pump blood to a greater height than if you are lying down.

When I was going to. pulmonary rehab, I was having really bad mid to upper chest pains. My cardiologist said it appeared more muscular than heart related. My pulmonary therapist then started working with me on chest stretching exercises which gave me a lasting benefit.
