Why do you get an intense head rush with pulmonary hypertension?

An intense head rush or feeling dizzy happens because your brain isn't getting enough oxygenated blood. In pulmonary hypertension, your heart struggles to pump blood through the lungs effectively. This means there may not be enough oxygen-rich blood circulating to your brain, which causes that dizzy, light-headed sensation.

This feeling is especially common during physical activity because your heart and lungs have to work even harder when you're moving. Some members experience it when changing positions too. As one myPHteam member shared: "Sometimes, I get light-headed and dizzy when I get up if I've been sitting for a while. I know to get up slowly, but it still happens!"

Another member described: "I have sharp shooting pain in my head, neck, back, and thighs when my blood pressure drops below 120 after moving around."

If your dizziness is getting worse or you're experiencing fainting, it's important to talk with your doctor. They may recommend medication adjustments, physical therapy, or other treatments to help manage these symptoms and keep you safe.
