Life expectancy with severe PAH varies significantly based on several factors. Without treatment, those with severe (Class 4) PAH may have a life expectancy of less than 6 months. However, modern treatments have dramatically improved survival rates, with many people now living more than a decade after diagnosis.

The most important factors that affect life expectancy include:
• Age at diagnosis
• Type of PAH (idiopathic, associated with other conditions, etc.)
• Functional class (severity level)
• How quickly treatment is started
• Response to treatment The good news is that treatment advances have significantly improved outcomes. Current data shows that with proper treatment, the five-year survival rate is over 60%. This means more than half of people with PAH live at least 5 years after diagnosis, and many live much longer with appropriate medical care.

Early diagnosis and starting treatment promptly are crucial for the best possible outcomes. While PAH remains a serious condition, newer therapies continue to help people live longer, healthier lives.
