First I was told I had SOB, then COPD, then I have water around my heart and lungs (given water pills - lost 28 pounds of water weight) then I am told I have severe pulmonary hypertension. I am on blood thinners/water pills and oxygen therapy. Does any inhalers work? I can't walk anywhere without getting short of breath. My blood pressure and heart is normal most the time, sometimes high.
In pulmonary hypertension, you can experience shortness of breath even with normal oxygen levels because the issue lies with blood flow between your heart and lungs, not just oxygen levels alone. Think of it like trying to push water through a narrow pipe - even if there's plenty of water, it can't flow properly. The Show Full Answer
As @A myPHteam Member said, check with your doctor before starting new supplements. Potassium as a supplement gave me IBS so now I just eat 2 bananas a week plus 2 pears a week and my potassium levels are now fine. I was taking Magnesium as a supplement and it gave me racing heart and afib events so I had to stop that.
Hi Elizabeth. I am on blood thinners as well and my sitting oxygen levels are 97-99 and my breathing is normal. But if I get up quickly or go down stairs right away I will be breathing hard for a few seconds then normal. I have been taking a supplement called Magnesium and another one called Blood Support by True Balance. I have only been taking these for 2 weeks but I seem to be able to get my breath back much quicker. Now of course this is strictly unscientific and definitely not documented in the journal of medical history of Stephen. Lol buy it has been helping me.
Oxygen therapy is often used with PH for many reasons other than low oxygen levels. It can be used to reduce the strain on your heart. It can also be used as a vasodilator, opening the blood vessels in your heart and lungs. I don't know all your medical issues so I'd suggest talking to your doctor about whether you would benefit from inhalers or not. As for your potassium and magnesium, take them as directed. Diuretics often cause our bodies to lose potassium. Low potassium levels can result in muscle cramping and dangerous, life-threatening cardiac arrythmias. Magnesium not only can relax the blood vessels but the muscles of the heart allowing your heart to function more efficiently.
Sounds just like me Elizabeth! Left heart diseases.
