I struggle with fatigue and weakness, especially if I am active. Currently, I am also dealing with anemia. But if I walk or go up the stairs one too many times, I feel it the next day. The anemia is causing left sided heart failure, which put me back into right sided heart failure. Frequent breaks help. Do a little, sit a little.

The fatigue Show Full Answer

Yes, fatigue and weakness are very common symptoms of pulmonary hypertension. Almost 60% of people living with PH experience fatigue. This happens because PH can make it harder for your heart and lungs to deliver oxygen to your brain and tissues throughout your body, leading to both mental and physical fatigue.

The fatigue you're experiencing can be caused by several PH-related factors including: inflammation in the pulmonary arteries, reduced physical activity levels, low blood oxygen levels, and sleep problems. Some people also experience fatigue as a side effect of their medications. Since you're noticing your symptoms getting worse, it's important to discuss this with your doctor. They may need to evaluate if your PH is progressing or if your treatment plan needs adjustment. They can also help determine if physical therapy or other interventions might help manage your fatigue and weakness.

Remember that it's okay to ask friends and family for help with daily tasks when fatigue is severe. Conserving energy by getting assistance with errands and routine activities is an important form of self-care when living with PH.
