Since my diagnosis I've flown several times. The first time I experienced quite a bit of SOB and swelling. Interestingly I did not experience any symptoms on the return flight home. Before flying again, I spoke with my pulmonologist. She made several suggestions. I now make certain I drink plenty of water in advance of flying. I also wear good compression socks. Sitting for long periods of time can cause swelling. To combat this, I "write" the alphabet (lower case letters) in cursive with each foot. I also pump my feet and do sitting leg lifts. It is also useful to get up and walk in the aisle (not a problem since I am well hydrated AND take diuretics).
I would suggest talking with your doctor about what you experienced. Some people do require oxygen when they fly.
I get swelling in my feet ankles and sometimes lower legs whenever they are not propped up which means that even when I go for a ride in the car or go out to eat a meal with friends. I have to pick and chose the days that I do these activities to give myself the next day to rest and get them back to "normal".
