Members rallied around someone who experienced severe heartburn and was diagnosed with bibasilar subsegmental atelectasis at the ER, with several sharing that daily medications like Omeprazole, Nexium, or Pantoprazole have been lifesavers in managing chronic acid reflux and preventing flare-ups. Many members offered practical advice, including avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods, eating smaller meals, elevating the head while sleeping, and following up with both a pulmonologist for the lung findings and a gastroenterologist to rule out other issues like gallbladder problems or esophageal damage. A recurring theme was the importance of advocating for proper testing, such as upper GI scopes and colonoscopies, and finding moments of humor and community support when navigating chronic digestive issues.

I’m on Nexium but researching that term says:
Bibasilar atelectasis is the collapse of the lower parts of both lungs. It most often affects people who have undergone major surgery with general anesthesia but can also be due to an obstruction, tumor, blood clot, or pressure change in the lungs.

Hey Kris and Julie, I too have been on 40 mg Nexium for 10 years. Too funny Kris, the endoscopy is second, and some camera. Haha. You’ll be out, you won’t know 🫣🥺 I just canceled my duo. I have throat issues swallowing and swollen saliva glands and my voice has depended. Also sore throat and vomiting forest green bile. I need to reschedule. Let me know how it goes and if you have a funny taste in your mouth. 🤪🤣

You both are good. I love my Nexium. I can tell if I don’t take it about 6 hours after I should.

Make sure to check in with a gastroenterologist to make sure there is nothing else wrong.
