I read where insomnia is a symptom of ph. I have trouble sleeping. How does ph cause insomnia and what can be done about it? Thank you!⚘
Underlying conditions such as pain, anxiety, and obstructive sleep apnea are often associated with pulmonary hypertension. I would encourage you to reach out to your PH doctor. If you haven't been evaluated for sleep apnea, you should be. There are also medications that can be useful for treating insomnia, chronic pain, and anxiety.
It is also important to establish a good sleep routine. I try to go to bed around the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning. We keep our bedroom cool at night. Studies have shown that the optimal sleep temperature is 68 degrees. Some find it helpful to take a warm shower or bath before bed. Others enjoy hot herbal tea such as chamomile or Sleepy Time. Many take melatonin to help reset their Circadian rhythm. Our doctor suggested magnesium glycinate 400 mg about an hour before bed for my husband. I would suggest however, that you consult with your doctor before taking magnesium or melatonin.
Thank you!⚘
Thanks everyone for the tips for sleep. Have a blessed day!⚘

My three things I do faithfully every night to get a good night's sleep are Magnesium, very cool room (have done this all my life)...winter and summer, and a weighted blanket. I also have a smart watch that records how much sleep I get each night....both light sleep and deep 😴 Also shows if I have "awake" periods! Before starting Magnesium and the weighted blanket, I had many night's of tossing and turning.....and lots of pillow flipping!

@A myPHteam Member offers some great suggestions. Electronic devices such as computers, tablets, and phones stimulate the brain, making it more difficult to fall asleep. I've found it helpful to shut down all electronics about an hour before bed then brush my teeth, wash my face, etc. Reading a real book or listening to an Audible book helps me to fall asleep rather quickly.
