I've had gout off and on for over a year and just when it seemed to be under control, I got another very painful bout of it. Looking for suggestions beyond taking Colchicine.
Whole food plant based diet
Such as "The Starch Solution"
By Dr McDougall
Or his website has info for free but book is very inspiring with personal testimonies and more info. This method of eating has cured some inflammatory dieases like arthritis and gout.
Also, Dr Esselstyn's book
How to Reverse and Prevent Heart Diease has a similar whole food plant based diet but more greens and is stricter. I have been trying to follow Esselstyn but cant seem to give up a few things ice cream and sorbet somehow jump into my mouth. But hands that used to hurt so bad are so much better now. I believe that it also helps PH. KATIE MCGOE-Smith has an excellent you tube video about how it helped her. She had PH and lived better and much much longer than expected. Search Katie on you tube.
Also tart cherry juice helps. I can’t do the juice so I purchase tart cherry extract.
I’ve had gout in my left elbow & right index finger. Often at the same time. Pruines also occur legumes. Beans & red meat trigger mine. Especially pork.
Not being able to eat beans except in low quantities can be frustrating. Also spinach & leafy greens can be a problem.
I take Allopunnol as a preventative & when I have severe bouts I take Colchicine.
The sad thing is you can do most everything recommended & still have attacks.
I wish you did not have this.
Do you take Ulloric to keep the uric acid down? If not, talk to your doctor. Also, do you know what you trigger foods are? Mine is shellfish which is a real bummer.
Thank you for the tips, Jeannette!
