I was told 11 years ago that my life expectancy was 6 months. It’s been eleven years! I give honor and praise to God. I lost 120 lbs. which helped greatly. Meds worked as well. I’ve had a 60 lb. regain and can’t seem to get the scale to budge downward. I broke my leg and ankle 1 1/2 years ago and had a heart attack before that. I gained weight with each thing. My oxygen says aren’t as good as they were. I was recently diagnosed with emphysema although I have never smoked. I’m concerned my pulmonary artery pressure has risen again. I need to get serious about weight loss! I’m not anxious for a cardiac cath to see what my numbers are. I do know you can get better and have a better quality of life. I’m a living example!

The life expectancy of individuals with pulmonary hypertension (PH) varies based on several factors, including the type and severity of PH, as well as any underlying conditions. Here are some key points:

- General Life Expectancy: People with PH and low-risk features (e.g., no kidney disease, higher capacity for exercise) can expect to live more than 10 years.
- Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH): Life expectancy has improved from 2.5 years to more than a decade due to better medications and treatments.
- Group 2 PH (Left Heart Disease): Women have a better five-year survival rate (61.8%) compared to men (47.1%).
- Group 3 PH (Lung Disease and Hypoxia): Five-year survival rates are 44% for women and 34.3% for men.
- Group 4 PH (Chronic Thromboembolic Disease): Those who undergo surgery have a three-year survival rate of 89%.

It's important to note that these figures can vary based on individual circumstances and advancements in treatment.

I appreciate prayers for sure! I just got results of an echo which suggests lesser pulmonary artery pressure in the right pulmonary artery. I am so thankful. My shortness of breath is attributed to COPD which is newly diagnosed. My weight makes things worse. I’m working on that but it’s difficult.

Pray for one another...that is something we can do...if not prayer then send out good thoughts, at least.
