Members responded to a question about raising arms above the head with pulmonary hypertension and congestive heart failure, explaining that the concern stems from strain on the heart and lungs, though many acknowledged that living independently often requires doing things despite medical restrictions. Several members shared practical approaches including using grabber tools to reach high items, planning activities to avoid overexertion, working in moderation, and focusing on whether a specific task actually triggers breathlessness rather than avoiding it entirely out of fear. A recurring theme was the balance between following medical guidance and maintaining independence, with members encouraging listening to your body's signals while not letting restrictions overshadow the joy and autonomy of daily life.

You do what you can when you live alone. Bending over, lifting, lying down all cause exacerbation of symptoms. Avoid repetitive bending or lifting more than 10lbs are some of my restrictions-do I abide by that? No-there’s no one here but me but I do try.

If I don't I would never be able to get half of my dishes down out of my cupboards. HA! HA! HA! I would not recommend leaving them up for a very long time. All things in moderation would be good. Plan your activities so you don't get tired..

What a Beautiful Name! My question to you is only this......Does it bother you to get dishes from the cupboard? Can you raise your arms above your head without losing your breath? Then stop worrying about the simple stuff and focus on the HAPPY things you enjoy!
