It was only 72 degrees outside this evening about 6:30 so I decided to take my dog for a walk. She is 14 so we were moving pretty slowly. I had my portable oxygen machine on my shoulder and increased it from 2L to 3L. I walked about 400 feet and felt as if I couldn't get a good breath. I leaned on a street sign for a couple of minutes and continued back home. By the time I opened the door, I was sweating profusely and breathing with difficulty. I sat down on sofa and within 10 minutes, I… read more
Emily, Get yourself a walker with a seat so that if you need a break...instead of the street sign or stopping to lean over you can get the instant relief you need. I recently purchased an upright walker with the seat and what a difference ... I have two dogs to walk and this has helped immensly. I opted for a upright walker as I am trying to walk upright better and get my lower back to stop hurting. You should try the regular wheeled walker with the seat first to see if it is what you need. Made a big difference in the distance in which I could walk and I felt secure (just like the shopping cart in the grocery store). I am determined to increase my steps and help my muscles work better.
Yes Emily! You need to see your Cardio and Pulmonary Doc. I am group 2 (left heart disease/failure) and have the same issues with loss of breath, I rest just a few minutes and I am ok! Don't keep going you will pass out! I did until I learned my limits and recognized my breathing getting hard!
Yes get checked but also was it humid at all? Makes it a lot harder to breathe, also check your tubing to be sure the oxygen is getting to you. I find my nasal cannual crimping sometime at the port. But for sure call and tell your doctor to get checked! Prayers...❤️ 🙏
Yes Emily please get yourself checked out!
Feeding off what @A myPHteam Member posted, if you are on Medicare, they will provide you with a 4 wheeled rollator with a seat for no charge. Your PH Clinic can arrange for that for you. It’s also worth asking if they would supply you with an upright version, though those are more expensive.
I have my Medicare provided rollator but with it weighing 18 pounds, it is too heavy for me to quickly load and unload from my car. So on my own dime, I purchased a 3 wheeled rollator without a seat that weighs 10 pounds and a 4 wheeled rollator without a seat that weighs just under 10 pounds. I keep one in each of our vehicles. The 4 wheeled one I got (also off Amazon) actually has its handles high enough that I can stand almost completely straight and I am just over 5’6”.
And I’m guessing other insurance carriers will also either provide one or at least cover part of the expenses.
