Very often the numbers will be written in the report as Systolic/Diastolic/Mean. If the Mean is over 20 then you have PH. My initial mean was in the 30s and I was considered mild.

Your wedge pressure is indicated as PAWP or PCWP. If over 15 then you are in Group 2, Left Heart Disease

How can catheterization results help determine pulmonary arterial hypertension severity?

Right heart catheterization is the gold standard for diagnosing PAH and assessing its severity. This procedure measures several key values that help your doctor understand how hard your heart is working and how well blood flows through your lungs.

The most important measurements include:

* Mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) — A reading of 20 mm Hg or higher confirms PAH
* Pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP or PAWP) — Helps distinguish PAH from other causes of high lung pressure
* Right atrial pressure — Shows pressure in the upper-right chamber of your heart
* Pulmonary vascular resistance — Indicates how difficult it is for blood to flow through lung vessels
* Cardiac output/cardiac index — Measures how effectively your heart pumps blood
* Venous oxygen saturation — Shows how well oxygen is being delivered to your body

Your doctor compares these numbers to classify your PAH severity. A high mPAP with normal or low PAWP points to PAH. If both are elevated, left-sided heart disease may be involved instead.

These measurements, combined with other tests and your symptoms, help determine if you have low-risk, intermediate-risk, or high-risk PAH. This classification guides your treatment plan and helps predict outcomes.
