Today my pain specialist prescribed a compound topical ointment with 10% ketamine for my knee pain. I have osteoarthritis and injections aren't working.

Members rallied around a question about compound topical ketamine for knee osteoarthritis pain, with many sharing their own positive experiences using compounded medications for both human and pet conditions, including customized formulas delivered through creams, ear rubs, or specialized oral medications. Several members offered practical recommendations, including Dr. Christopher's bone and tissue massage oil, Pain Formula AMT cream containing gabapentin and lidocaine from Injury Scripts pharmacy, and suggestions to apply heat before topical application or consult with doctors about insurance coverage and potential heart-related side effects. A recurring theme was the value of compound pharmacies as a creative solution when standard treatments fail, though members acknowledged these medications often aren't covered by insurance and availability varies significantly by state.

Check with Injury Scripts, (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators). They are based in Jacksonville, FL. I get a compounded cream called Pain Formula AMT from the. It contains Gabapentin, Lidocaine, Cyclobenzaprine, and Prilocaine. They may have a ketamine-based cream they compound as well. I will tell you the Pain Formula AMT works like magic on joint and muscle pain.

We have compound pharmacies scattered all over here. Some are just for humans, some just for critters, some for both.

Thanks LeAnn. The pharmacist suggested putting heat on it before applying. So far this cream isn't helping much. 😕

Hi Jane. I have osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.. with osteo in knees and hips. I use an herbal topical. It is "Dr. Christopher 's bone and tissue massage oil." I soak a cotton ball and then paint my knees and hips. Massage in briefly
It works for a few hours, 5 to 6 especially if I add my heating pad. I have been very happy with the results
On amazon...about 20 bucks a bottle and lasts a couple months.
