A surgeon puts a catheter with a balloon on the tip through the wall between the upper chambers (atria) of the heart to make a hole. This allows blood to pass from the right side of the heart to the left side and bypass the lungs, which have high resistance due to pulmonary hypertension.
Unfortunately the procedure cannot be done on someone who is on oxygen

I talked with my pulmonary specialist and she informed me that the procedure is only used for individuals who do not require oxygen so iwill be making the trip with oxygen.Either way I am still grateful to be put on the transplant list

Hi Pamela2. I looked up your procedure and it's interesting. I've seen people here having ASD repair but I hadn't heard of expanding the ASD before. Are you looking at a future transplant? Hugs
