So I have read on here often about ones who talk about how horrific it is to have to bend over, may I ask what happens when you bend over or lift something heavy? Hope this is not a "stupid" question.
No question is stupid! Bending over makes me short of breath and sometimes lightheaded. Picking up or carrying something heavy does the same. Probably has something to do with the diaphragm in the bending position. Probably a question of some compression of the abdominal area in the carrying situation. Anything that reduces the expansion of the lungs is going to cause problems. At least, that's what I have found.
Hi TB .I agree with caseym that is what happens to me and the worse my emphysema gets the harder it is. I have a grabber thing that I use to pick things up with my friend you are not alone.
I beleive (for me) when i bend over i hold my breath. Anytime i hold my breath i immediately have 2 stop & breathe very hard 4 a little while. Its like i cant catch my breath.
I get short of breath, but not light headed. I've heard of people who pass out if they bend over. I'm not supposed to lift over 10 pounds due to my weak heart and prolapsed vagina. My back pack with my 2 iv pumps, checks, cards, small hand sanitizer, and ink pen easily weigh at least 10 pounds so I'm ok walking slowly short distances, but just toting 4 or 5 towels and I'm out of breath just walking 20 feet, but I'm seldom light headed. I again have heard of people who pass out
In agreement with all, short of breath and very dizzy when bending over!
